Jan B Pfister, Chief Instructor

Jan came to Boreal Yachting in 2004 and has since spent a lot of time working as a professional for us.

Jan is Chief Instructor for Boreal Sailing Academy (BSA), and responsible for planning and running the courses. He is also skipper.

Jan, can you tell us a bit about your background?

I am Swiss, and live with my family in Switzerland, a land with no coast as you know. However, I decided early to become a sailor, and I have a professional education in leisure sailing. I have various degrees in the RYA system, and have become a RYA Yachtmaster Instructor. I have experience with boats from 10' to 140'.

I am a family man, have two great kids to look after, and a tolerant wife accepting that I am away from home from time to time.

Why do you work with Boreal Yachting?
Boreal Yachting is the most serious sailing company in Norway, and offers many interesting activities.  I like working with aspiring sailors, and I like the informal atmosphere in the company. I should also say that my grandmother is Norwegian, and I spend a lot of time at Sørlandet. (Southern part of Norway)

What you do when not being on Boreal Yachting duty?
I am the Principal of the Swiss Maritime Academy, and I do a variety of development and services, instructing and skippering all around Europe.

 What do you like about sailing and about Northern Norway

Sailing is a unique mix of tradition and modernity, technical, yet still very close to nature and packed with a variety of exciting challenges. It's the same with northern Norway - that's why it fits together so perfectly...

What's the best part of the work?
The clients, the colleagues, the yachts and the sailing area!!!
